Slingshot
A 3 track jungle / drum 'n' bass single (18m 15s) — released November 22nd 2010 on Allsorts
A relative newcomer to the Drum and Bass scene, Joe Syntax has begun to make quite a name for himself over the past few months. His first productions surfaced earlier this year on the legendary Hospital Records and their sister label Med School music, and he has already gained club and radio support from the likes of Hype, Fabio, London Elektricity and many other respected DJs and producers. Hailing from the West Country, but currently based in London, Joe has been soaking up the many musical influences around him, and the resulting productions definitely confirm that he is at the cutting edge, and one of best new skool producers out there. This 3 track single will mark his arrival on the scene and so brace yourself for forward thinking music, with stimulating atmospherics and a clear techno influence.
‘Slingshot’ is a stripped back minimal track, with lush pads and light percussion giving way to an elastic bassline, hypnotic drums and perfectly placed fx’s and atmospherics. Support from minimal, techy, liquid and jump up heads have shown that this track has appeal across the board. ‘Fire Engine’ intro’s with solid marching beats which fall into a crazy drop full of twists and turns and slips and slides, combining a whole host of mixed up different sounds which gel seamlessly together drawing the listener in keeping dancefloors bubbling. ‘Spa Town’, possibly a homage to Joe’s West Country roots, is an introspective and immersive track combining deep warm bass, delicate chord stabs and spacey FX’s.
One of the best Drum and Bass singles from a new producer in 2010? We certainly think so.
